Understanding Refund Processing
After you've returned an item, waiting for your refund can feel like the longest part of the process. Understanding how refunds are processed, how long they take, and what factors affect timing can help set proper expectations. This guide explains everything you need to know about receiving your refund.
Refund Processing Timeline
The refund process involves several stages, each taking different amounts of time. First, your package must arrive at our returns facility. Shipping time varies based on the carrier and service used, but typically takes 3-7 business days for domestic shipments. Once your return arrives, our warehouse team logs it into our system and forwards it to our returns processing department.
The inspection and verification stage takes 1-3 business days. Our team carefully examines the returned item to ensure it meets our return policy requirements—verifying it's unused, has all original components, and wasn't damaged during return shipping. If everything checks out, we approve the return and initiate the refund immediately.
The actual refund processing takes different amounts of time depending on your payment method. For credit or debit cards, we process the refund to your card immediately upon approval, but your financial institution may take 5-10 business days to post the credit to your account. PayPal refunds typically appear within 3-5 business days. Bank transfers or ACH payments can take 7-14 business days to process fully. Gift card refunds are usually the fastest, appearing in your account within 1-2 business days.
In total, from the day you ship your return to when the funds appear in your account, expect 10-20 business days for the complete cycle. Peak seasons like holidays or major sales events may add a few extra days to this timeline due to high return volumes.
đź’ˇ Refund Timing Tip
The "5-10 business days" quoted for credit card refunds refers to the time your bank takes to process the refund after we've issued it, not the total time from when you ship the return. We submit refunds to your card immediately upon approving your return. If it's been longer than 10 business days since you received your refund confirmation email, contact your bank to inquire about the status of the credit.
How Refunds Are Issued
Refunds are always returned using your original payment method. This is both a security measure and a requirement from payment processors. If you paid with a credit card, the refund goes back to that same credit card. If you used PayPal, the refund returns to your PayPal account. For bank transfers or other payment methods, the refund follows the same path back.
You cannot request a refund to a different payment method than you originally used. For example, if you paid by credit card, we cannot issue the refund as store credit or to a bank account. This policy protects against fraud and ensures refunds reach the original purchaser. The only exception is for gift purchases, where recipients can opt for store credit instead of refunding the gift giver.
Partial Refunds
Several situations might result in a partial refund rather than the full purchase price. If you're returning only some items from a multi-item order, you'll be refunded for those specific items only. If return shipping costs are deducted (for change-of-mind returns), that amount will be subtracted from your refund. For orders that qualified for free shipping based on a minimum purchase threshold, returning items that bring your order below that threshold may result in original shipping charges being deducted.
If an item shows signs of use or is missing components, we may offer a partial refund reflecting the item's reduced resale value. Before accepting a partial refund for condition issues, we'll contact you by email explaining the situation and the amount we can refund. You'll have the option to accept the partial refund or have the item returned to you at your expense.
Store Credit vs. Cash Refunds
In most cases, refunds are issued to your original payment method as described above. However, there are situations where store credit might be offered or required. Items purchased with store credit from previous returns are refunded as store credit. Final sale items that were defective may be eligible for store credit rather than cash refunds. Gift recipients often prefer store credit so they can choose a different item without involving the gift giver.
Store credit appears in your account immediately upon return processing and never expires. You can use it for any future purchase on our website. Store credit is applied automatically at checkout when you're logged into your account. If you have multiple store credits, they'll be combined and used together until the balance is depleted.
Tax Refunds
When you return an item, any sales tax you paid on that item is also refunded. Tax refunds are included in the total refund amount issued to your payment method. You don't need to calculate or request the tax separately—we handle that automatically. The refund amount shown in your return confirmation includes both the item price and applicable tax.
If you paid customs duties or VAT on an international order, be aware that we can only refund taxes and duties that we collected directly. Import fees assessed by customs in your country and paid to the carrier are not refundable through us. You may need to file a claim with your local customs authority to recover those fees.
What If Your Refund Is Delayed
If you haven't received your refund within the expected timeframe, there are steps you can take to resolve the issue. First, verify we've approved and processed your return by checking your email for our return processed confirmation. If you received this email, note the date—count 10 business days from that date for credit card refunds.
If it's been longer than expected, contact your financial institution. Explain that a merchant issued a refund and ask them to check for pending credits. Banks sometimes hold refunds in pending status for several days before posting them to your available balance. Provide them with the confirmation number from our email if needed.
If your bank says they haven't received the refund, contact us. We can provide a refund reference number and proof that the refund was sent. With this information, your bank can typically trace the credit and determine where it is in their processing system. In rare cases where a refund genuinely fails to reach your account, we can work with the payment processor to resend it.
Refunds for Cancelled Orders
If you cancelled an order before it shipped, refund timing differs slightly from standard returns. Order cancellation refunds are typically processed within 24-48 hours since there's no physical return to inspect. However, the same timeframe applies for your bank to post the credit—5-10 business days for credit cards. Pre-authorization holds might also take a few business days to drop off your account, even though we release them immediately on our end.
Tracking Your Refund
You can track the status of your refund through multiple channels. Check your email for the return processed confirmation we send—this indicates when the refund was initiated. Log into your account and view your order history—the refund status is often displayed there. Monitor your bank or credit card statements for the credit, keeping in mind it may show as pending for a few days before being available.
If you used PayPal, log into your PayPal account and check your activity or transaction history to see the refund there. For store credit refunds, check your account balance on our website—the credit should appear immediately after return processing.
Multiple Returns from One Order
If you're returning multiple items from a single order, you can return them all together or separately. If returned together, you'll receive one combined refund for all returned items. If returned separately, you'll receive separate refunds as each return is processed. This means the refunds might hit your account on different days, which is normal—each is processed independently based on when that particular return arrives and is inspected.
Keep track of which items you've returned and when to avoid confusion. Your account order history should show the status of each individual item within an order, helping you track which returns have been processed and which refunds you should expect.
